This weeks direct was crazy. Kingdom Hearts 4, Ocarina of Time, Duskbloods, WUHU ISLAND? This direct left us with a lot to talk about, and people have been talking. But honestly, I want to save the discussion on these games until we get more info, because only a small teaser with no gameplay is not enough to go on for a discussion that I think is worthy of writing one of these for. What I really want to talk about, is the insane reveal of Deltarune Chapter 5. It might be waiting on us, but we don’t have to wait on it to figure out what’s gonna happen in this years chapter of Toby Fox’s real life fever dream. Let’s take it piece by piece, then talk the future. First things first…

The Release Date.

As of writing this, Chapter 5 is only two weeks away, which is absolutely insane! Now, we did know that we were probably gonna get it sometime this summer. Check out this post if you want to know more. But literally two weeks after its reveal was not on my bingo card. It’s dropping on a Thursday, which means most people (including me) will be at work, so be aware of spoilers when you are scrolling in the bathroom at work. Yeah, I see you. But what does the trailer actually show? Toby Fox says not much but I think there is solid reason to doubt that, or it means that this chapter is so insane that this IS not showing a lot. Either way, huge W for us.

That Flower.

The very first thing we see in the trailer…

is that goddamn flower.

This imagery is very on purpose, like everything in Deltarune. Strike that, everything Toby Fox does. Nothing is telling us, for one hundred percent certain, that this is Flowey. But it is not coincidence that a yellow flower appears constantly throughout this trailer. Certain parts of the dark world seem to even take place on top of a giant plane, maybe the entire dark world is on top of Deltarune’s version of Flowey? Maybe we’ll see what an Omega Flowey powered by Asgore instead of Asriel looks like. But we’ll get to Asgore in a minute. The ties to Omega Flowey don’t even stop there. In fact, we straight up see Kris dodging one of Omega Flowey’s Attacks from Undertale.

On top of that, Kris is alone. Which leaves two questions. Why is Kris alone, and where are the other two? (Assuming Noelle doesn’t join the party, but that’s a whole other thing.) Maybe this is a secret boss? Maybe Kris gets separated and has to deal with some family drama on their own, considering this is Asgore’s Dark World, there is probably some family issues that need sorting out. Speaking of Asgore.

The Flower Man Trapped in Asylum.

Chapter 4’s prophecy’s, and a strange interaction with Asgore in the Holiday house, painted a clear picture that at some point Asgore is going to become not only important to the actual plot, but also enter ,or even open, a dark world. (Chapter4 Asgore prophecy)

His dialogue in Chapter 4, his characterization from others like Undyne and Toriel, and his actions in Undertale lead me to think that Asgore will, presumably, be the one we are facing off against this chapter. Especially since there’s a non zero chance that this dialogue is referring to opening a dark world during Toriel’s performance. Which means chapter 5 could have a Dark World opened outside. This all means that the fun gang would be racing against the clock to shut it down before it engulfs the whole world. Which ties into the running theme with Asgore of his ignorance, and good intentions, leading to him hurting those around him. Maybe the “Asylum” he’s trapped in, is a self fulfilling prophecy of his road to hell paved with his good intentions. But that’s only my theory.

That (other) Flower, and Kris.

A few times throughout the trailer, and prominently across the updated Deltarune Website, is a Blue flower. Now, colors are no joke in Toby Fox productions, and especially Deltarune. So when me and everyone else were expecting to see pink and gold, this focus on this blue flower seems like a sudden left turn. And to be honest, I have no idea what it is or what it means. My best guess is that it’s blue, so it might be tied to Kris. Whether this blue flower is representative of Kris or not, I bet Kris will be playing an even more important role than normal this chapter. Not only is this their dads Dark World (probably), the tensions between Kris and the player reached a fever pitch in Chapter 4. So Kris is going to be dealing with a lot in this chapter no matter what. How/If the flower ties into that, remains to be seen.

Though, the new Deltarune website is also hiding something else. Something that I’m not sure how many people picked up on at first glance. When visiting the website, the logo starts out without any color. Black and white. Even the normally red heart is gone. But then it quickly fades…

Deltarune logo fading into the Kris colors.

into Kris’s exact colors full red heart and all. Now this could mean nothing. But it could also be, what is probably, the biggest piece of evidence tying Kris to the vessel to date.

What does it all mean, and what’s next?

Chapter 5 will take place during the festival. Noelle will be there. The fun gang are there. And the chapters dark world has flowers and a Japanese theme. That is all we know for sure.

The most recent newsletter talks about “Let’s turn around and watch the sun, before it goes down completely.” Which is very ominous. On top of some statements saying that Chapter 6, is nearing completion and is “easier” to make then other chapters, leads me and others to think that we are in for a rough end to this chapter. Either that, or a rough beginning to the next.

Deltarune is nearing its end. Which is crazy to think about after so long. But after this is only 2 chapters, so it’s coming. And if the newsletter is to be believed, it’s coming sooner rather than later. The Sun is setting quickly, let’s enjoy it while it lasts.

Deltarune Chapter 5 is releasing as a free update to Deltarune on all platforms on June 24th.
